Our trip to the Aquarium

On Friday the whole school went to the Portobello Aquarium for the day to do research. It was a windy road there but we stopped to look around and have food at Macandrew Bay and the Happy Hens Park. When we got there we went into a room with lots of chairs. A woman told us what we were going to do. Then our group went to see the baby sharks and after that we went to the room beside the touch tanks and looked at a crab. The male crab had a light house on its tummy. Then we went to see the sea anemones. After that we went to the rocky shore and lifted rocks. Finally we went back to school.

Research

As part of our study about weather we have looked at keeping warm. For homework we found out about animals that live in really cold climates

We are making mittens so that we will have warm hands when the frosts come ! Using the sewing machine was fun but a bit tricky. We used a pattern and chose some nice colours of polar fleece.

Great Homework

Well done Liam .Your homework was the best this week as you thought about your setting out and also used colour .Well done .

Hall Alterations

Four weeks ago some builders started renovations on our hall. The builders have used up a lot of the room inside so we don't have much room for physed so we have to do it outside. It is hard work for the builders. They use lots of different tools. I think the hall will look great when it is finished.

Swimming

Over the last two weeks we went to DNI Pool to do swimming. My swimming teacher was Aleisha and she was a very good teacher because she let everyone have a turn going first. I need to work on my backstroke and frog kick. I learnt how to do lots of freestyle and not stop and just keep on kicking and kicking. I did 11 laps up the rope and down the wall. The best part was doing the laps because you can do what ever you like.

Technology Challenge

We have been working on some technology challenges with our college teachers ,Mr Eaton and Miss Kannemeyer. The first one we did involved us making a shelter for three people if there was an earthquake . We had about half an hour and only a few sheets of newspaper, tape and string. We had to think about rolling paper to make it strong . We all made differently shaped shelters and some groups worked well together.

Changes

Over the holidays two buildings were shifted at school and the builders are busy getting them ready. Where they were taken from is going to be landscaped and made into a nice area. The painters are still working on the College Block and it will be really good when we can use our library again.
