Marble Tracks
What fun!!! We made marble tracks as part of our study of Forces. We learnt about friction and acceleration and how things speed up or are slowed down. Our tracks were meant to have a jump and a loop as well as straight bits and sloped bits. Here are some of our efforts.

Maths and Measuring
We have been looking at how much things weigh. We tried to find objects in the room that weighed about 1 kg and then we looked at packages from the supermarket and checked out their weights. Then we looked at the shapes of containers and estimated how much liquid they held. It was good fun using water outside and we realised how hard it is to be accurate!

Homework Presentations
Over the last few weeks of term we have been writing reports on animals at school. We read books and gathered the information and organised it with headings. We found out lots of new and interesting facts about animals like the kea and the platypus. Then we got to choose something we were interested in and write a report on that for homework. It could be anything from a sport,a hobby, an animal or an invention. The really good thing was we could present the information any way that we wanted. Everyone worked really hard and made fantastic presentations which we shared with the class. We had them on display in the hall during the last assembly and they are now on display in Room3 and in the office area. Here are just a few of them.
Keeping Ourselves Safe
Earlier in the term we started a topic on Keeping Ourselves Safe. We looked at who we should go to if we have problems and how to cope with some tricky situations. We talked about body language and it showing how people are feeling. When we are feeling proud and confident we look and move differently than when we are sad or frightened. We also looked after an egg for a few days. This was to help us realise how difficult it can be to look after "someone" all day .We made special houses to keep our eggs safe.
FORCES
As part of our study on forces we looked at gravity and air resistance. We made parachutes and dropped them from the balcony and watched how the parachutes opened out and slowed down their flight.
Soccer
The senior classes all had the opportunity to have soccer coaching from Elise. She came each Wednesday afternoon and we were able to practise our skills and also have some games. It was fun.
Kapa Haka
Over the last few weeks we have been working on our waiata and haka that we are going to perform at the Edgar Centre on the 17th of September. We think we are starting to sound really good and we are getting excited.
