Hiwi the Kiwi
Mr Minstrel and Mrs Minstrel came to school on Tuesday and performed in the hall. There was singing and dancing and lots of laughing!!We learnt about safety on boats, wearing life jackets and all about flares. We also heard about things we need to take with us on boats when we are fishing....things like rulers to make sure our fish are the right size and ice to keep them fresh. People were given posters and stickers and magazines. The person who writres the best story about going fishing will win a fishing rod.
Lamb at School
Macauley brought her lamb,Naught, to school. (Naught is short for naughty!!!) Naught behaved really well. We saw him being fed from a bottle and watched him follow Macauley aroung .It was fun to have him at school for the afternoon.
Teaching Each Other
We have been teaching the children in our groups. We all ahd to think of something we wanted to teach others so wehad things like soccer, painting, clay work , hockey making sock puppets and lots of other things. It was good to be the teacher and it was also good being taught new stuff by friends.
Swimming
Our swimming classes are over for another term. We had fun and learnt lots and all improved. One day we got to dive in which was really good.

communication
As part of our study in communication we took photos that showed us communicating our feelings through our faces and bodies .We had fun deciding which emotion to show and how best to do it . Later we made posters with the photos and explained what each one showed and thought about how we could make them even better. Here are some of our photos.
Speeches
For homework we had to prepare 2 minute speeches on something we were interested in . We had to think about speaking clearly and making our speeches interesting!!! We could show pictures or charts . Some people talked about sports and others about their pets or interests . Everyone did really well and we all learned new things .

Keep Dunedin Beautiful
We really enjoyed the visit from the actors who come round schools to talk about recycling. They acted out all about putting rubbish in the right places . They told us not to throw rubbish into streams and bushes because our favourite places would be ruined.

Changes
We made clay pots as part of our study looking at changes.First we rolled snake shapes and twirled them into spirals and pressed all the spirals together to make a bowl shape. They looked really good. Then we mixed up lots of ingredients like citric acid and baking soda and herbs and we made bath bombs. These smelt great. We wrapped them and made gift tags and gave ythem to our parents.

Challenges
We have been looking at inventions and inventors. We invented our own marble tracks and tested them. Some of us had spirals and bridges and jumps. Mr McKenzie came and judged the tracks. We found that they were harder to make than we thought! After that we worked on some technology challenges .We made clothes and stilts and all sorts of things with just newspaper and sellotape. We had to work cooperatively with our group and that wasn't always easy.
Swimming
Room 3 has just finished going swimming at D.N.I pool.We all improved and really enjoyed it. Some of us went with Room 5 and some with Room 10 and we all had fun.

Mihi Whakatau
On Thursday Rooms 3 and 5 welcomed the Pakiki Kids and thePuanani kids to North East Valley Normal. Meihana spoke and we sang a waiata and Mr McKenzie spoke and we sang again. Then the people from the viisitors side spoke and sang and then the older people had a hongi . After the official part was finished we were able to buddy up with the children from the Pakiki class and show them all over the school and tell them where we were allowed to play and our school rules. It was fun.
