Logan Park Sports Day

On Tuesday after interval the whole school got into groups and started working with pupils from Logan Park High School. They were working towards their credits for N.C.E.A . We played lots of different games and learnt new skills. It was nice to work with a mixture of age groups and to try different things.We were lucky the weather was so good. It felt like a spring day and it was lovely to spend it outside.

Stars on Stage

Our S.O.S performance is going to be on the 6th of September. The idea behind it is communication and how people communicated with each other before cellphones existed. Everyone is working hard and we are all looking forward to seeing the dances when we put on our costumes as well.

Money Money Money

To help us learn more about money we are  being paid to come to school and then charged rent for our desks! We can earn extra money for behaving well and for doing really good work. Unfortunately we also have to pay money if we forget our notebooks or talk too much!! There is a list  on the board of ways we can earn money and another list showing how we can lose money too. We have lots of money activities that we are working on . If we finish these we get paid too.
We have bank accounts and can make deposits to The Valley Bank if we want to. It is all fun and some of us have earned lots of money.

New Experiments! Are seagulls colour blind?

Last week S2 checked out what colour of bread seagulls prefer.We dyed two of the breads different colours, one pink and the other blue, and put them in hoops outside where we could see them. We had a few students helping the set-up. Layla set the hoops in place, Matty was head photographer, then Lucas, Rata and Memory helped crumble the bread and put it into place.  In conclusion none of the seagulls trusted the blue bread. Most of the normal white bread was eaten, and all the pink bread was eaten. Only a few seagulls ate a little bit of the blue bread. But then one of the seagulls started to choke on the blue bread! I think that may have put them off eating the bread. In the end all the bread did get eaten. We are going to try different colours to see what happens.
The rain meant we couldn't repeat our experiment until Thursday. This time we chose different colours and positions. We used yellow and green this time as well as normal bread.The seagulls ate  the yellow and white bread really quickly and then moved onto the green. even though the green bread was closest.

I'm guessing the seagulls do not eat dark colours  because in the  last experiment they didn't eat the dark blue until last and went for the others really quickly.

What's Cooking

Linda took Charisse and Ruqaya to the supermarket to buy the ingredients for their baking. They decided on making a banana cake so needed to buy lots of items. Once they got back to school they put all the ingredients on the bench and started measuring out what was needed. They had to melt butter, sift in flour, mash the bananas and stir it all together. Here are some pictures of them working hard in the kitchen and also a picture of the finished delicious cake . Thank you to Charisse, Ruqaya and Linda for sharing your baking with the rest of S2. It was yummy.
