We have been looking at myths and legends and in particular dragons and taniwha. We all wrote the start of this legend together and then every one wrote their own ending. We read out our stories to each other and then chose these two as the ones we liked the best.
In a far off country in the sleepy village of Dunedin lived a fearsome dragon. He lay curled in a hole near a small school where he would go when he felt hungry ! The children were very scared but knew the story that the dragon could only be vanquished by someone brave and young and 9 years old.
Lupus decided that he would have to try. He was very thin and weak but he desperately needed the money that the king had offered as a reward.
He took his sword and shield and carefully climbed the rocky slopes of the quarry. His heart was thudding and fear tickled his spine. He heard the dragon’s tail bang the ground as it moved and the snores it made shook the ground. Climbing closer his palms got sweaty and he really wanted to go home but he knew he had to keep going .He finally reached the dragon’s lair… it was time.

Lupus saw the dragon. He looked into the cave:quickly he ran and hid behind a boulder. He pulled out his axe and lunged at the dragon, stabbing it into him. It flew high then hung from the ceiling . Lupus still clutching his axe decided to grab the dragon's eyelid. The monster screeched in pain. At that moment Lupus threw his axe into the dragon's mouth. The dragon screamed and fell to the ground with an earth trembling thud. Lupus , still amazed, didn't see the children slowly climbing out of the dragon's mouth. When the sun was almost down Lupus walked home with the children walking behind him. When Lupus got back to the village he asked the children where they lived and took them all home.
Sam
Lupus stepped on a twig. The flying snake awoke. It looked around the hole. Lupus jumped into a nearby bush. The dragon's giant tail rattled and swished. A wall crumbled behind the beast. Lupus had an idea. He sprang from the bush. The weak and starving boy threw his shield. Its rusted edge licking the wind a sit flew. The shield dug into the wall as the dragon was covered in rock. The monster's soul rose into the air and formed a spiral. That was the end of the dragon !!
